MATTHEW BLACK

I started flying kites as a kid when I was young, and then re-entered the hobby around 2002 with a 6 ft delta and a few small windsocks to decorate the line. I was then able to witness the giant show kites we now fly today when a group from Cambridge & Guelph were invited to a town event by Bruce Power.

Ever since that day I have had the bug and started flying large single line kites and inflatables. I started out making my own inflatables that were tiny, and then joined workshops to make bigger inflatables. I also started to buy inflatables and line laundry and the collection has been growing ever since.

I have also sewn my own 20ft x 40 ft Canadian flag that makes an appearance whenever I can show it off. When I purchased my first 30ft clownfish back in 2008 the kids all knew who it was and shouted out NEMO! Now Its Spiderman and Batman that I can hear being yelled from all around the event when they fly high. I also have 6 Pokémon inflatables with the largest being 45ft long, and the kids will quickly tell you who they are!

Interacting with the public has been a large part of the fun in the hobby!
