GEOFFREY MAHER

Hometown: Lakeport, Conestoga Lake

On the of beaches in Australia, Canada, USA, Spain, Portugal, Greece,

fields in Germany, Mexico, Switzerland, mountains in France, Spain & the

Himalaya ’s & deserts in Tibet, China & the Caribbean I’ve flown kites. I’ve introduced kiting to many when I fly in those countries.

In twenty countries I’ve enjoyed performing or just relaxing to the sound of the air flowing by the varieties of single line kites I own, both very large &

small. My kites range in size from one meter to thirty meters. My kites are all

shapes & colours. They depict sea creatures, 100,000 million year old

arthropods, reptiles & birds.

I started flying at an early age & I was making kites with the help of my

father & grandfather. Using paper bags, dry cleaner bags & light cloth

material. Using my kites I integrate photography & video. Kite flying

continues into the night with L.E.D. lights. You can capture terrific unique

images from high above in the sky.

Kiting offers more. New friends, relaxation, different locales & countries to fly, introduction to other hobbies(I’m a private pilot).

You may also decide to start sewing your own kites.

Wind comes in varying strengths therefore it’s necessary to

have a variety of kites for different wind strengths. Part of the challenge is

choosing the right kite for the right wind. Not always easy! Watching the

faces of children & chatting with the adults that come to talk about their

past kite flying days is the final enjoyment that makes all the hard work worthwhile.

All in all just a great hobby.
