🚫 Kite-Fighting 🚫

Kite fighting and the use of ‘manja’ is strictly prohibited at Hopeville.

Thank you!

Kite-fighting is a traditional sport originating in South Asia and parts of South America. Made famous by The Kite Runner novel and movie, the sport involves a sharp abrasive kite line called Manja. Fliers use their sharp line to cut the lines of other fliers. The last kite flying is the winner.

While the sport is fun to play and beautiful to watch, it also creates a dangerous situation. Each time a kite line is cut it falls to the ground and ends up in parks, fields and trees. Manja is very sharp and can harm animals and humans.

Recent kite festivals in Ontario have resulted in a dangerous mess and have even led to municipal bans on kite fighting.

At Hopeville, we will have a strict ban on kite-fighting and Manja. We’ll also ask that ALL kite lines be less than 300 feet. Thank you!
